Common Questions

When should a baby switch from rear-facing to forward-facing car seat?
The AAP recommends keeping children rear-facing as long as possible, until they reach the maximum height or weight limit of their rear-facing car seat. Most convertible seats allow rear-facing up to 40-50 pounds. Rear-facing provides significantly better head, neck, and spine protection for young children in a crash.
How do I know if my car seat is installed correctly?
A correctly installed car seat moves less than 1 inch side-to-side at the belt path. The harness should be snug (you can't pinch excess strap at the shoulder), the chest clip should be at armpit level, and the seat should be at the correct recline angle for your child's age.
When do car seats expire?
Most car seats expire 6-10 years after manufacture (check the label on your seat). Expiration exists because plastic degrades over time from heat and UV exposure, making the seat less protective in a crash. Never use an expired, recalled, or crash-involved car seat.
